Country club hosts youth tennis
BUTLER TWP — Some familiar faces will be on the court for Butler Country Club when it hosts the 12th annual West Penn Junior Tennis Team Championships Friday.
The event consists of the best players from this summer's Western Pennsylvania Junior Tennis League.
Eight clubs will be participating, and the competition is comprised of 18-and-under and 12-and-under mixed doubles divisions. Results from the two divisions are combined to determine the final standings.
Three of Butler Country Club's four players from last year return. Jessica Holden returns in the 18-and-under division and will be teamed with Jack Boros, who represented BCCin the 12-and-under division last year.
Joe Boros Jr., Jack's older brother, teamed with Holden in last year's event. The Boros boys are the sons of Treesdale golf pro Joe Boros Sr.
Katelyn Latuska played in the 12-and-under division for BCCa year ago and returns this season. Her partner will be Jack Standbridge.
The event's defending champion, Oxford Athletic Club North, has not entered this year's tournament.
Joining Butler Country Club in the eight-club field are Allegheny Country Club, Butler Junior Tennis Association, Chapel Gate Swim Club, Club 4 Life from Monroeville, Forest Hills Swim Club, Edgeworth Club and LakeVue Tennis Club in Valencia.
Club 4 Life finished second while Forest Hills finished third last year.
Check-in for Friday's event is at 10 a.m. at the BCCcourts. Matches begin at 10:30 a.m. with the finals slated for 2 p.m.
