Conlon

Katie Conlon, 13, daughter of Ray and Nance Conlon of Renfrew, was recently honored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held at Duquesne University.A student at Knoch Middle School, she ws chosen based on her performance on an ACT test.She was also awarded a three-credit scholarship at Grove City College.Conlon is active in basketball, volleyball, Future Business Leaders of America, student council and the gifted program at her school.———

<B>Mindy Geibel </B>and <B>Sarah Young</B>, both recent graduates of Butler High School, have been awarded scholarships by Guardian Building Products.Mindy, the daughter of Randy and Sue Geibel of Butler, has been accepted to Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, where she plans to major in secondary math education.Sarah, the daughter of Ron and Ann Young of West Sunbury, plans to pursue a degree in communications, beginning classes this fall at Butler County Community College.———<BR></BR><BR></BR>

<B>Butler Elks Lodge 170</B> has announced recent graduates chosen to receive the lodge's 2007 scholarships.Receiving $400 scholarships were <B>Jessica Vernon</B> and <B>Monica O'Donnell</B>, both of Butler High School, and <B>Rachael Riddell </B>of Moniteau High School.Scholarships for $250 were awarded to <B>Molly Evans </B>and <B>Rachael Bennetti</B>, both of Butler High School; <B>Courtney Slagle</B> of Karns City High School; and <B>Jessica Speicher</B> of Slippery Rock High School.Slippery Rock High School students <B>Michael Acquavita, Min Woo Chung, Jamie Anderson, Benton Mahan, Kendall Mahan </B>and <B>Braden Shaffer</B> and Butler High School students <B>Garret English, Alayna Carroll, Victoria Cox, Michael Porter, Joshua Snodgrass, Elizabeth Shultz </B>and <B>Angela Carothers </B>were all awarded $150 scholarships.———

<B>Grant Nagle</B>, son of Marc and Gerriann Nagle of Butler, has been accepted to Penn State University.Arecent graduate of Butler High School, he was active on the Varsity Golf Team and St. Peter Roman Catholic Church's intramural basketball team.———

<B>Chalice Streitman</B>, a student at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic School, took first place at the regional History Day competition held at Westminster College.Streitman then proceeded to a state competition in State College, where she took third place for her performance of her research piece "Dimes, Dimes, Dimes: The Tragedy and Triumph of Polio."———
