No tuition hike in BC3 budget
BUTLER TWP— Butler County Community College passed a budget without a tuition increase.
The board of trustees Wednesday approved a $21.3 million budget for 2007-08.
David Silk, vice president for finance and operations, said it was a straight forward budget.
Projected revenues increased about 5 percent from 2006-07, mainly from tuition and fee estimates.
The college's spring enrollment was down about 3 percent. The college reopened its 2006-07 budget to account for that in March. While summer enrollment was up slightly more than 1 percent, enrollment for the coming fall is down about 7 percent from this point last year.
Student tuition and fees, which account for 47 percent of the total revenue, is projected to increase about 10 percent to $9.94 million.
This budget also reflects a decrease in spending on building and site improvements from $796,000 to $52,000. Silk said funds were moved for improvements during the re-budget. The money paid for renovations to Founders Hall, boiler units and parking lots.
The board did not pass a tuition increase, leaving it at $91 per credit, including fees for county students.
Last year, a $3 increase per credit hour was needed to balance the budget. Tuition and fees remain $146 for other state students and $219 for out-of-state students.
The budget is labeled preliminary because the state has not passed its budget yet.
