Kevin England, grandson of Ernie and Linda Castello of Prospect, has been awarded a Davenport Leadership Scholarship by the Virginia Tech College of Engineering.England was also recently selected by the U.S. Department of Education as a candidate for the 2007 Presidential Scholars Program.A National Merit Finalist, he is a senior at Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky.———

Several students from <B>Butler Catholic School</B> earned awards during the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition held at Slippery Rock University.Students earning first place awards included <B>Monica Caparosa, Josh Denny, Aimee Monday, Missy Nichol, Angela Nowacki, Alex Protivnak, Isaiah Sawhney </B>and <B>Sarah Scott</B>.Second place winners were <B>Jacob Ferguson, Ben McKnight, Alexis Mook, Kara Shorr, Meghan Studds </B>and <B>Kelly Szwed</B>.Students earning first place will proceed to a state competition this spring at Penn State University.———

<B>Tyler Traister</B>, a student at Union High School, participated in the 2007 MENC All-Eastern Honors Ensemble March 11 in Hartford, Conn.An alto clarinet player, Traister was chosen for the ensemble based on his first chair placement at the Pennsylvania All-State Band festival last year.The Butler Eagle publishes announcements of students receiving scholarships or awards, being accepted to colleges or universities or graduating from a post-secondary educational program.
