Center Township residents Will Nesbitt and Evan Kowalski finished among the top three in their respective divisions at the recent Sectional Tennis Tournament held at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford.

Nesbitt, 12, a seventh grader at Butler Junior High, finished third in the 14-year-old boys singles division, defeating third-seeded Jack August 6-3, 6-3, Alex Trimble 6-1, 7-5 and Akshay Damany 7-5, 6-0.

Nesbitt was defeated by Bjorn Fratangelo, ranked third in the nation as a 12-year-old last year, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals before defeating second-seeded Shankar Rajuput 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 for third place.

Nesbitt and Jesse Schierer finished second in doubles play.

Kowalski, 14, a freshman at Butler Intermediate High School, lost to Fratangelo 6-0, 6-0 in the finals of the 14-year-old boys singles division.

Kowalski had defeated Cameron Carlock 6-0, 6-0, Michael Matthews 7-6, 7-6, Noah Joachim 6-2, 6-3 and Shankar Rajaput 6-4, 6-4 to reach the finals.

Kowalski teamed with A.J. Catanzariti to place third in doubles.

The sectional tournament included top players from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware
