GCC Hall inducts 1st class Sat.
GROVE CITY — Grove City College will induct 12 individuals and one team as its inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame class Saturday night.
This inaugural class features seven former athletes and five coaches and administrators.
Two are from Butler County: Jody (Imbrie) Smith of Butler and Donald L. "Doc" McMillan, who was from Evans City.
McMillan first made an impact on Grove City College athletics as a standout tennis player in the 1930s. Over the next five decades, beginning in the mid-1950s, McMillan transported hundreds of high school athletes from southwestern Pennsylvania to campus for varsity contests, tours and interviews with Grove City College admissions officers and coaches. He was often seen with a notebook full of statistics for every athlete.
Smith, a basketball standout, earned unanimous first-team all-America honors following her senior season in 1983. That year, she led the nation in scoring at 28.5 points per game. Her 770 points in 1982-83 are still a college record, as is her 41-point effort against Youngstown State in 1983.Smith graduated as Grove City's all-time leading scorer with 2,288 points. Her 392 assists are second in program history.
