Yes,the two fighters were friends. That doesn't make a difference when one is an employee and the other a customer; even if the customer is drunk. Speidel did go outside to watch the fight and Mr. P, the owner,was aware of the fight too. Speidel is just a kid with no management experience that screwed this up and will have to pay the price for it as will his employer. Your point is valid about the victim taking responsibility but that isn't the way the system works.
