Sanford 'Sam' Marshall Peters Sr.

Sanford "Sam" Marshall Peters Sr., 68, of Butler died at his home Friday.

Born Oct. 21, 1938, in McGrann, Pa., he was the son of Herbert J. Peters and Anna Victoria (Schnitzler) Peters-Kuchta.

Mr. Peters worked for 36 years with American Howe/TruServ, where he was a shipping and trucking supervisor. He also served in the Navy aboard the USS Northampton from 1956 to 1960.

He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the North American Hunting Club, the National Rifle Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation-Moraine Chapter. He also was the former coordinator of the Covenant Food Cupboard and a former elder of his church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, riding ATVs, his camp and crafts.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Leighty) Peters; two sons, Stevan A. Peters of Worthington and Sanford M. Peters Jr., of Clarion; a daughter, Stacy D. Beere, of Kittanning, and eight grandchildren.

He also is survived by two brothers, Herb Peters of Worthington and Nick Kuchta of Kittanning; and four sisters, Connie Ballock of Kittanning, Joann Cushey and Tory Roudybush, both of Worthington, and Debbie Bowser of Home, Pa.

<B>PETERS</B> — Friends of Sanford "Sam" Marshall Peters, who died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home</B>, 424 Bear St., Worthington. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Jim Swanson of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler presiding. A memorial service will also be held later in Butler.Burial will be in the Ford City Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Western Pennsylvania or to Covenant Presbyterian Church of Butler.
