The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Student Government Association has named
Lisa Rendos of Slippery Rock the recipient of the John Ridilla Leadership Scholarship.Rendos is a criminal justice major who holds the position of vice president of the Alpha Phi Sigma criminal justice honor society. She also is active on campus as a member of the women's soccer team, Habitat for Humanity, Scholars in Service, the Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society and the judicial board.———
Victoria DeMore of Gibsonia, a 2005 graduate of Pine-Richland High School, is a member of a team chosen for the finals for the NASA Means Business Competition.Astudent at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, she is majoring in Aerospace Engineering.The competition challenges teams to develop a plan to keep children's interest in science and math. The winning team composed a 50 page report, submitted it and won a spot in the finals. Team members won $1,000 and trips to Houston and the Kennedy Space Center.As finalists, the students receive a $1,000 cash award, an invitation to "behind-the-scenes" tours at NASA's Johnson Space Center and Kennedy Space Center, and a travel award for one team member.The competition will be held May 7 through 9 at Kennedy Space Center. NASA will use the winning team's commercials on national television.
