Arlie George Johnston
Arlie George Johnston, 80, of Valley Township, Armstrong County, died Thursday at the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born April 5, 1926, in Tarrtown, Armstrong County, he was the son of George W. and Hazel Schaub Johnston.
He had been a boiler fireman and truck mechanic at Union Carbide-Linde Aire Division and retired in 1982 after 38 years. He then was self-employed until 1992.
During World War II, he served with the Army's 33rd Infantry in Panama.
Mr. Johnston was a Protestant.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.He also liked working with farm and industrial machinery.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta Painter Johnston, whom he married March 29, 1946; two sons, Alan G. Johnston of Washington, Pa., and Glenn E. Johnston of Valley Township; two daughters, Donna A. Howard of Philadelphia and Nancy J. Geibel of Butler; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
He also is survived by a brother, Paul Johnston of Washington; and two sisters, Ruth Zimmerman of Ford City and Judy Bowser of Kittanning.
A sister preceded him in death.
<B>JOHNSTON </B>— Friends of Arlie George Johnston, who died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home</B>, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Visitaiton also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Peters officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington.
