Melvin Hassler Sr.
Melvin Emerson Hassler Sr., 81, of Butler died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born May 16, 1925, in Boyers, he was the son of Ralph and Gladys Hogue Hassler.
He was a member of the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hassler was a Navy veteran of World War II, and he owned Mel's Glass & Glazing Co. until he retired in 1996.
He enjoyed camping with his family and his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley J. Moyer Hassler, whom he married April 19, 1969; a daughter, Denise C. Wilcox, her boyfriend, Fred Fester and two grandsons, Tyler and Austin Wilcox; a son, Dennis C. Hassler, his wife, Becky, and three granddaughters, Shelby, Ashley and Katey Hassler; two sons, Melvin "Sonny"and Rick Hassler; a daughter, Beverly Balog; a stepdaughter, Pat Sticka of Ohio; two stepsons, Ron Long of Harrisville and Don Long of Michigan; 17 additional grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Adrian Hassler of Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
<B>HASSLER </B>— Friends of Melvin Emerson Hassler Sr., who died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson st. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. W. Lee Dreyer, officiating.
