Butler County's great daily newspaper

Two sets of lights!

I would like to take a few moments to explain a little something to the drivers of Butler County, in particular those who drive in the area of Saxonburg and Bonnie brook road.

There is a mechanism in your vehicle usually located on the steering column with the turn signal lever. It controls the lights on your vehicle. When pulled in a backward motion it will initiate a more powerful set of lights known as high beams. When pulled in a backward motion again it will return your lights to the low beam mode. You can tell that you have high beams on because there is usually a signal light on your dash(most are blue) but they can be any of a dozen colors I suppose. When driving it is common courtesy not to mention a State Law that you turn your high beams to the OFF position when meeting oncoming traffic. There is really no need to constantly drive with your high beams in the ON position. If you feel it is necessary for you to constantly drive with your high beams on; I suggest you see an eye doctor! It is not only annoying but also a very dangerous thing to do because you are in essence blinding everyone else. Also, it is not necessary to follow someone closely with your high beams in the ON position. I can tell you that I never do any reading in my car at night while I am driving so the extra 4000 candle power coming from your vehicles top and bottom lights is not appreciated. I can also tell you that I have been to the eye doctor and my eyes are just fine. Most of my night driving I do with low beams on. I am always courteous and turn my High beams to the off position when on coming traffic approaches. Others I encounter do not and the lighting on the vehicles of today is just unbelievable! Now I am unsure if people are just unaware that they have two sets of lights in their vehicle or if they are just too lazy to pull a switch backward. I would love to give these individuals a dose of their own medicine by having lights installed on my car that would be so bright they would turn the offending individuals hair completely white!! One set for tailgaters the other set for oncoming traffic. I realize that would make me as bad if not worse than them and also would possibly cause harm to others, so that isn’t even an option. I do hope some of the population finds this an informative post and hopefully it will make the roads safer for all of us. I would like to hear if other people in the area have the same gripe as me. At any rate it gives us something different to talk about. Regards, John
