Thompson 50th anniversary

Darlene and David Thompson

David and Darlene Thompson of Butler will celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house and luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at Nixon United Methodist Church, Airport Road, Penn Township.

The former Darlene McCormick married Thompson Dec. 14, 1956, at the home of Warren Thompson.

They have four children, Connie Sweeney of Butler, Ronald Thompson of Enon Valley, Bonnie Sarver of West Sunbury and Donna Davidson of Saxonburg.

They also have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thompson is retired. He worked at Wick Implement for 22 years and was employed at Ritenours and Smardt Equipment. Thompson is also a former stock car driver, competing from 1958 to 1972 and winning several championships at the Lernerville, Mercer and Butler speedways. He enjoys racing with his son, granddaughter and grandson with the lawnmower and go-kart racing.Mrs. Thompson is a homemaker. She and Thompson participated in the Couples Compact bowling league at Sherwood Lanes for 22 years. She also enjoys bingo, visits to the Mountaineer Gaming Resort and painting T-shirts and sweatshirts for her family. She enjoys writing music and has performed music with her brother Jim McCormick.
