BAMFL title tilt Saturday
East Butler and Center Township will clash for the Butler Area Midget Football League championship at 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park.
Center Township (6-0) stayed undefeated by posting an 18-6 victory over South Butler in the league semifinals. East Butler (5-1) defeated Penn Street 33-6 in the other semifinal.
Center Township 18, South Butler 6 — Cole Baxter ran seven yards for a touchdown on Center Township's first possession. South Butler (2-4) scored after a botched snap on a punt, David Tompkins finding the end zone on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to tie the game.The Rams put the game away with two touchdowns in the third quarter. John Barkus scored on a 40-yard run, then on a 39-yard run.
East Butler 33, Penn Street 6 — The Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter as Matt Bartley ran 23 yards for a score on a fourth-and-11 play. He added a 4-yard scoring run later in the period and Colin Williamson kicked the two-point conversion.Bartley's third touchdown of the game occurred on a 55-yard run in the third quarter. Brian Tanner recovered a Penn Street fumble and returned it 45 yards to paydirt to give East Butler a 26-0 lead by quarter's end.Cody Bonini scored the lone touchdown for Penn Street (3-3) on an 18-yard run in the final period.Prior to Saturday night's league championship game, two sixth-grade all-star games will be played at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
