Clayton Safritt of Cranberry Township was awarded second place in the fourth annual Grove City College/Pine Instrument Business Plan Competion. Safritt was among a team winning $1,500 for its Streets to Streams project in the nonprofit category.———

Barbara Scheffler of Butler, a senior at Grove City College, was recently inducted into Scroll and Key, a scholastic honorary for senior students. It is the highest academic award given by the college. Not more than one student may be selected for each 15 members of the senior class.———

Shane Killian, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Killian of Slippery Rock, received the Outstanding Junior Major Prize for Political Science at the annual honors convocation held recently at Allegheny College.The prize is awarded for exceptional academic achievement, performance in the junior seminar and contribution to the general life of the department.———

Meghan Lewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis of Butler, received the Elli A. Sauer Prize Fund at the annual Honors Convocation held recently at Allegheny College.The prize is awarded to a senior majoring in German and chosen by the faculty.———

E. Reuben Spinner, both of Butler, have been chosen to serve as orientation advisers at Gannon University.Lesser is the daughter of Michael and Joyce Lesser. Spinner is the son of Catherine A. Killmer.———

Joseph Baccanti of Worthington, who attends Indiana (Pa.) University at Northpointe, has received a $1,500 scholarship from the International Society for Optical Engineering.Baccanti is the son of Donna Baccanti of Butler and Dennis Baccanti.———

Lauren Bonando of Slippery Rock has been selected as one of two Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership ambassadors in Pennsylvania to attend the World Leadership Congress this month at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.HOBY includes high school sophomores selected by their guidance counselors to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government and education.———

Nicholas Pappas Jr., son of Shelley Pappas of Butler, recently received a scholarship to attend conservation leadership school at Penn State University. The scholarship was awarded by the state Game Commission and the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club. Pappas is a senior at Butler High School.———

Chris Dudek, son of Russell and Linda Dudek of Prospect, and

Melissa Patterson, daughter of Eric and Michelle Patterson of Portersville, were presented with awards recently by the American Legion Auxiliary Post 417. Dudek received the Outstanding Eighth Grade Boy Award, and Patterson received the Outstanding Eighth Grade Girl Award.
