Russell Carothers

Russell Jamison Carothers, 91, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly of Niles, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday at West View Manor Nursing Home in Ohio.

Born Feb. 7, 1915, West Sunbury, he was the son of John and Tressie Caroline Klink Carothers.

In his youth, he attended West Sunbury Nazarene Church.

He enlisted in the Navy in September 1942 and served his country with honor during World War II on the USS Independence in the Pacific.

Upon his return to the states, he spent the next 33 years as a dispatcher for the Ohio Edison Co.

Mr. Carothers was active in Wooster United Methodist Church, where he had was head usher and served on the board of trustees.

He was a member of the Mahoning Chapter of the I.O.O.F. and he enjoyed square dancing.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Graham Carothers, whom he married Oct. 28, 1942; two daughters, Sondra (Bert) Wolfe and Karen (Don) Lordan; three grandchildren, Lori LaWarre, Jennifer Allan and Kady Lynn Lordan; and three great-grandchildren, Tegan and Summit Allan and Megan LaWarre.

He also is survived by two sisters, Hazel M. Hutchinson and Ruth E. Weitzel.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur L. and Harry A. Carothers.

<B>CAROTHERS</B>—<B> </B>Friends of Russell Jamison Carothers, who died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. at <B>McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home</B>, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, Ohio. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Lofgren and the Rev. Dr. David Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at the Wooster Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, OH 44691, or to the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster, OH 44691.
