Loretta J. Looman
Loretta Jane Shipman Looman, 81, of Brownsdale Manor died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 22, 1924, in Norton, W.Va., she was the daughter of Robert Goyan Shipman and Ora Gale Currence Shipman.
Mrs. Looman was an English teacher for the Webster County Schools in West Virginia, retiring in September 1985.
She was a member of the Nixon United Methodist Church and a former member of the Webster Springs United Methodist Church in Webster Springs, W.Va. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She also was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta honorary teaching sorority and was a founding member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Wesleyan College.
Survived are a daughter, Glenda L. Merritt, wife of the Rev. Bruce K. Merritt of Penn Township; and three grandsons, Daniel Merritt and his wife, Julie, of Seneca, Venango County, Andrew W. Merritt of Colonial Heights, Va., and Samuel F. Merritt of Penn Township. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Paul (Velma) Jackson of Chester, W. Va.; a niece, and four nephews.
Her husband, Frank R. Looman, died Nov. 18, 1996. Abrother, Ronald R. Shipman, also preceded her in death.

Dean Ziegler, the district superintendent of the Butler District United Methodist Church, officiating.
