Butler man arrested for suspected drug dealing

Roosevelt Blvd. site of police crackdown

Cameras mounted outside of a Butler man's house, aimed at his front door didn't help him evade police, resulting in his second drug arrest in three years.

Ronald Jay McKivigan, 46, of 250 Roosevelt Blvd., was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Friday in his home by members of the state police's Troop D Butler Vice Unit and the Butler County District Attorney's Drug Task Force.

McKivigan's arrest came as the result of a sealed search warrant and an ongoing crack cocaine investigation, in which officers or informants made drug buys at the 250 Roosevelt house, which is owned by his parents, David and Anna Marie McKivigan.

Ronald McKivigan was arraigned Monday by District Judge Pete Shaffer on three counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was placed on a $100,000 cash-only bond and committed to the Butler County Prison.

During his arrest, officers found 50 stamp bags of heroin, about 14 grams of crack cocaine that had been packaged for sale and seven bags of marijuana, also packaged for sale in the house.

Police say McKivigan's had installed cameras outside the house pointed at Roosevelt Boulevard and his own front door, which he used to monitor who was on the street and coming to his house.

This is not McKivigan's first brush with the law. He was one of six people arrested May 2, 2003, at his home on drug charges. McKivigan was arrested on a felony warrant.

He also has two driving-under-the-influence convictions, one in March 1999 and another in January 1996. McKivigan was sentenced to spend six months in the Butler County Prison in the 1999 case and, while incarcerated, he was to have attended drug and alcohol recovery classes.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 17 in Shaffer's office for McKivigan's latest arrest.
