Rock climbs into 1st
The Slippery Rock University baseball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Western Division standings with a two-game sweep of Indiana (Pa.) University, Saturday at SRU's Critchfield Park.
The Rock prevailed by scores of 2-0 and 3-2, respectively.
Derek Blyzwick gave up just two hits and struck out nine in the shutout win in the first game before John Katich surrendered two earned runs on eight hits to win the second contest.
Freshman second baseman Billy Herman, a Grove City HighSchool graduate, collected two hits in each game, while Chris Tolliver singled, doubled and drove in a run in Game 2.
The Rock (21-8 overall, 7-1 in the PSAC-West) also earned a weep of IUP on Sunday, winning by 15-9 and 6-0 scores.
Chris Tolliver had seven RBI in the two games.
Colin Scott tossed a shutout in the second game, scattering seven hits in seven innings.
