Grove City hires manager

GROVE CITY — Vance Oakes is the new borough manager, replacing Terry Farren.

Borough council Monday night approved the hiring of Oakes.

"Welcome,"council president George Pokrant said to Oakes after the vote. "You have big shoes to fill."

Farren is retiring at the end of the month after serving for 22 years. He will continue to be a consultant to the borough in exchange for health insurance. Oakes will take over the position effective March 27.

On Thursday, Oakes resigned as borough manager in Greenville.

Oakes will earn $72,000 per year and will receive $2,000 for relocation. He will also receive $200 per month for automobile reimbursement.

Oakes plans to move to the borough within six months with his wife Shelli and two-year-old son Alex.

Before his job in Greenville, Oakes was the borough manager of Falls Creek, a town outside of DuBois.
