Ashley Holmes, daughter of Diane Olenic of Butler, has been accepted to Edinboro University for the fall 2006 semester.She plans to major in art education.A senior at Butler High School, she is a member of the school softball team, bowling and art club. She is also active in the Girl Scouts and in church activities.The Midwest Intermediate Unit IV sponsored a world events academic competition Feb. 3 at Slippery Rock University for 400 students from 13 local school districts, including Slippery Rock, Grove City and Karns City.Students were quizzed on current events and events from the 1970s.From Slippery Rock School District, individual awards were given to
Dylan Parson in the fifth and sixth grade category and to
Alex Walters in the seventh and eighth grade category.From Grove City School District, individual awards were given to
Brian Murone and
Michael Augspurger in the grades five and six category.The next academic game will focus on equations. Students in grades seven through 12 will compete Feb. 22, and students in grades three through six will compete Feb. 27.Both competitions will be held in the multipurpose room of the University Union at Slippery Rock University.
