Ruth E. Scott Altmire

Ruth Ethel Scott Altmire, 88, of North Apollo died Wednesday at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Aug. 18, 1917, in New Bethlehem, she was the daughter of Emery and Martha Myers Shick.

She was a homemaker and lived in the Apollo area most of her life.

Mrs. Altmire was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star, both of Apollo. She also belonged to the North Apollo Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking, playing cards and wintering in Florida. She especially loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Harold Altmire Sr.; two sons, Harold L. Altmire Jr. (Jonni) of Kiski Township, Armstrong County, and Gerald D. Altmire (Denise) of Elderton; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Altmire of Apollo; a brother, Clyde Shick of Rural Valley; and a stepsister, Grace Brubaker of Latrobe.

She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeril (John) Goss of Punxsutawney, Jon Altmire (Debbie Kiser) and Jay Altmire (Karen), both of Kiski Township, David Altmire (Kim) of Renfrew, Lisa Hohn (Eric) and Denton "Denny" Altmire (Renee), both of Butler, and Jesse B. Altmire of Elderton; 13 great-grandchildren, Adrienne and Jillian Goss; Emily, Andrea, Tiffany, Megan, Brittany, Tyler and Alexander Altmire and David, Aaron, Adam and Maggie Hohn; and a special niece, Ruth Ann Lodell of Warren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, James and Rebecca Scott; a son, James W. Altmire, who died in 2003; four brothers, Henry, Clarence, John and Raymond Shick; and four sisters, Betty and Bertha Shick, Evelyn Vendetti and Mary Craft.

ALTMIRE — Friends of Ruth Ethel Scott Altmire, who died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at CURRAN-SHAFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Judith Boggs officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.Memorial donations may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 214 N.
