Band sets sights on parade in '07
BUTLER TWP — Marching band lovers have an entire year instead of just a few months to help the Butler High School Marching Band raise money for a trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Andy Yaracs, band director, said Wednesday the trip is planned for the 2007 Rose Parade, not the 2006 parade. The parade is held annually Jan. 1 as part of the Rose Bowl festivities.
Instead of a trip to California this year, the band will be going north of the border on Nov. 19-20, returning to the Toronto La Parade De Pere Noel in Toronto, Canada, which Yaracs explained is Canada's national holiday parade. The Butler band marched in this parade in 2000.
As for the Rose Parade, Yaracs said the cost should be about $1,200 per band member, similar to the price band members paid for their trip in 2000. Overall, that trip cost $250,000 and was paid for by band members and their families with help from fundraising events.
"We need a little time to raise the money," Yaracs said.
