Olivia Vasey, Sadie Marak and Amanda Skidmore, all from Butler, played on the Pittsburgh Power 12-and-under fast-pitch softball team that finished second in a tournament played recently in Sandusky, Ohio.Other girls on the team include Lauren Hackett, Lauren Hunt, Tara Llewellyn, Amanda Shepard, Kelsey Squeich, D.J. Ufolla, Kaley Wisnewski and Kaylee Zozos.
The Freeport Youth Football Organization will hold its Field Dedication Day at 11 a.m. Sept. 10.The organization involves 148 children from Freeport, South Buffalo and Buffalo Township. The field is located just left of the rear of Lernerville Speedway.Lernerville Speedway and other businesses in the Sarver area donated time and money over the past several years for the construction of a football field on the speedway's property.Past board members and those respective businesses will be recognized at the Sept. 10 ceremonies.

The Rampage Softball Organization of Lawrence County is seeking competitive players for its upcoming tryouts for 10-and-under through 18-and-under teams at West Pittsburgh Field on Route 168. The tryouts will be held at Hitters, Hackers and Hoops on Route 422 if it rains.Tryouts are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.Players must attend two of four sessions. The annual Butler Varsity Fall Cheerleading Clinic takes place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 3 at the Butler High School gym.Cost is $25 per person and includes T-shirt, pom-pom and snack.
