Shannon Scotece, daughter of Carmine and Barbara Scotece of Butler, has been accepted to the doctorate program at the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the State University of New York at Albany.She received a full tuition scholarship and will be working as a research and teaching assistant while pursuing a doctorate degree in political science.Scotece graduated magna cum laude in 2004 from Allegheny College, receiving a bachelor of science degree in political science and English.While at the college she was named an Alden Scholar and was a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honors society and the Alpha Phi Omega community service organization.She was a student fellow at the Center for Political Participation and was involved in peer education and the debate team.A 2000 graduate of Butler High School, she recently presented a paper with a fellow student and an Allegheny College professor at the Midwestern Political Science Association conference in Chicago.
Beth Myers of Butler has been appointed to a graduate assistantship in the Academic Enrichment Center at Clarion University.A 2001 graduate of Butler High School she graduated magna cum laude from Clarion, where she was a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and Phi Eta Sigma.
Julie Hranica, daughter of Edward and Donna Hranica of Sarver, has been chosen to participate in the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Teaching at Millersville University.
Ruth Anderson of Butler has been awarded a Century Out-of-State Scholarship at the Univeristy of Cincinnati.
