Haley Hackett, the daughter of Thomas and Janis Hackett of Butler, recently performed in and choreographed a dance piece for the Valparaiso University Dance Ensemble's spring performance.A senior elementary education major at the university, she is a graduate of Knoch High School.

Lee Saville-Andree of Mars, the son of Hal Saville and Cindy Andree, was recently recognized at the Susquehanna University Scholars Dinner.The recipient of the university's Mary Steele Piano Scholarship, he is a sophomore majoring in music education.The following students were awarded the Phillips Scholarship recently at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College:

Jordan Gray, a sophomore engineering major, is the son of Kevin and Terre Gray of Butler.

Adam Elliott, a junior electrical engineering major, is the son of Bill and Cindy Elliott of Butler.

Michael Beatty, a sophomore business major, is the son of Dean and Carol Beatty of Eau Claire.Students from Duquesne University School of Law were named regional champions in the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition on Feb. 27.Participants from Butler County include:

Matthew Rippin of Butler Township, was a member of the championship team. He is in his second year at Duquesne.

Nikki Smith of Cranberry Township was a semi-finalist. She is in her third year at Duquesne.Duquesne professor

Michael Streib and District Judge

Kelley Streib, both of Cranberry Township, were two of the team's coaches.On Thursday, the students will go to West Palm Beach, Fla., to compete against the other 13 regional championship teams for the national championship.
