Doris Ann Blackwood
Doris Ann Ramsey Blackwood, 71, of Grindel Road in Franklin Township, formerly of Slippery Rock Township and of Huntington, W.Va., died at 8 p.m. Friday at her home.
Born in Huntington, Cabell County, W.Va., on April 2, 1933, she was the daughter of Jesse and B. Mae Fisher Ramsey
She was an active member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Blackwood received her bachelor and master's degrees in elementary education from Marshall University, Huntington. She was a teacher for 12 years and taught in Cleveland, New Castle, Pittsburgh and Somerset. She was an executive secretary at the First National Bank of Slippery Rock from 1978 until her retirement in April 1998. She also was an officer of the board of directors of First National Bank of Slippery Rock in the capacity of executive secretary.
Her husband, Veo Raymond Blackwood Jr., whom she married Aug. 25, 1956, died Aug. 25, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas J. Blackwood and his wife, Gayle, of Butler and Randall V. Blackwood and his wife, Terry, of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie L. and Jeff Newton of Erie; and a sister, Elma and her husband, William, Lear, of Bridgeport, W.Va. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Melissa, Jessica, Nathan, Rachel and Jonah Blackwood; and several nieces and nephews.
BLACKWOOD - Friends of Doris Ann Ramsey Blackwood, who died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today atSMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, Franklin Street, Slippery Rock, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. H. Rand Edwards officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to Slippery Rock United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
