Butler graduate Kim Nowakowski, a freshman forward on the California (Pa.) University women's basketball team, scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds in a recent 81-40 victory over East Stroudsburg.

Nowakowski is averaging 9.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Lady Vulcans (7-2).

Butler's Matt Slamecka placed second in the Boys Under-14 division of the Oxford Holiday Classic Tennis Tournament held recently at the Oxford Tennis Club in Monroeville.Slamecka defeated Nicholas Cherry 6-1, 6-1, Jamie Matthews 6-4, 6-2 and Daniel Goldblum 6-3, 6-4 before losing the title match in a tiebreaker to Chris Nixon, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6.

Six local kids won the recent Butler Elks Hoop Shoot free throw shooting contest and will advance to the district shoot Jan. 29 at Mars High School.Girls winners were Marissa Mckee ages 8-9), Jennifer Barry (10-11) and Kourtney Rhoads (12-13).Boys winners were Kyler Luchkiw (8-9), Cody West (10-11) and David Schmidt (12-13).
