Autumn brings Applefest to Mars

MARS - Fritters, pies and cider. How 'bout them apples?

If you like 'em, then downtown Mars is the place for you on Oct. 2, during the 20th annual Mars Applefest.

It will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We try to have lots of apple and autumn-related crafts," said Dave Griffin, spokesman for the Applefest committee of the Mars Chamber of Commerce.

There will be

more than 90 vendors who will line Pittsburgh Street and Grand Avenue, A petting zoo and rock-climbing wall are part of the children's activities along with face painting and games. A fire truck and ambulance will be available for children to explore as well.

Musical entertainment from country music to a strolling mandolin player will treat the ears.

As usual, the one-ton spaceship will vacate the corner of Grand and Pittsburgh to make room for bands and barbershop- style vocals.

The antique car show, which normally takes place downtown, will move to the parking of LAS St. John, but a free shuttle bus will be available to take Applefest goers from one venue to the other.
