Mabel E. Walsh

Mabel E. Walsh, 87, formerly of 411 W. Diamond St., died Saturday.

Born in Butler, Jan. 19, 1917, she was the daughter of Charles and Anna Mortimer Young.

She was a graduate of Butler High School with the Class of January 1936.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Walsh, both of whom were active members of the Democratic Party.

She was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tanglewood Senior Center, the Women's Guild of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Second Half Club.

Mabel was a homemaker and caregiver to many friends and neighbors. She loved to dance and enjoyed the many trips, which she took with her friends from Tanglewood Senior Center.

In addition to her loving family, she was blessed to have Willis Gerard as a special friend, and they enjoyed many years of companionship. She also had two special people in her life, Sonia Trinko and Delores Anderson, who provided her with tender loving care.

She had an infectious sense of humor and brought many a smile to those around her, including her caregivers at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeanette and Willie Edwards of Westminster, Md., Carol and Don Osgood and Tom and Eileen Scott, all of Butler, Elaine and Denny Uram of Salem, Mass., Tom and Rosemarie "Honey" Walsh, of Granger, Ind., and Kathy and Chuck Wilbert of Evans City. She is also survived by a brother Earl Young and his wife, Ethel, of Butler; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Young; and a sister, Olive Smith.

-Friends of Mabel E. Walsh, who died Saturday, July 10, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 2878, Pittsburgh, PA 15230; or to Rett Syndrome Research Foundation, 4600 Devitt Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45246.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
