of Butler High School recently received the 2004 Barris Memorial Scholarships worth $1,000.

The scholarships are presented to high school seniors enrolled in the Professional Skills Career Academy Cosmetology program.Bowser is the daughter of Gerald and Mary Lou Bowser.Pawluk is the daughter of George and Rose Pawluk.---Blayke Wiederin, a senior at Mars High School, recently attended the National Student Council Conference in Las Vegas.---Amy Franek, daughter of James and Marilyn Franek of Butler, has been accepted to Saint Vincent College for the fall 2004 semester.She is a 2004 graduate of Butler High School.---John Marty, a senior at Freeport Area High School, has been chosen to participate in the American Legion Boys Nation program to be held in Arlington, Va., later this month.Marty was chosen based on his academic record, leadership potential and previous activities.---Brian Stock of Butler was recently featured in the 8th annual Symposium on Undergraduate Scholarship at Capital University.During the symposium, Stock gave a presentation entitled "Stored Procedures and Triggers."---Amy Reese, daughter of Jack and Lori Bickel and Fred and Jodi Reese, has accepted an internship at MSNBC in Washington, D.C. for the summer.A senior at the University of Pittsburgh, she is majoring in business and communications.At the university, she is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.A 2001 graduate of Butler High School, she is also the secretary of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and is a Red Cross volunteer.---Emily Kamarchik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kamarchik of Harmony, has been accepted to Saint Vincent College for the fall 2004 semester.A 2004 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, she plans to major in business.---The following Freeport High School students recently received awards at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition held at Penn State University:First place: Nathan Kubeldis, Christina Kersul, Julie Hranica, Cassandra Sotos, Melissa Porter and Steve KlabnikSecond place: Jeffrey Neely, Aaron Dunmyre, Brandon Dunmyre and Alyssa YagodaThird place: Jackie HranicaThe Penn State Space Grant Consortium Award was presented to Sotos.Klabnik received the Perserverance award.The Overall Regional High School Mathematics Special Award was presented to Brandon Dunmyre.
