Guy Hilton Burk

Guy Hilton Burk, 80, of Jackson Township died Monday morning at his home following an illness.

Born in Red Bank, July 3, 1923, he was the son of John David and Minnie Pearl McKissick Burk.

He worked at Armco-Butler Works for 39 years as a chemist in the metallurgical department and retired in 1985.

Mr. Burk was a United Methodist. He was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman.

During World War II, he served with the Army from Jan. 25, 1943, to Feb. 21, 1946, when he was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a life-member of the VFW Post 249 of Butler and had been a member of the post bowling team for years.

He is survived by his wife, Celia Woods Burk, whom he married Aug. 9, 1942; three daughters, Sally Miller and her husband, Blaine, and Dian Sasse and her husband, Eddie, all of Pensacola, Fla., and Ruth Strobel and her husband, Denny, of Crestview, Fla.; two sons, Jack W. Burk and his wife, Jeanette, of Karns City and George T. Burk and his friend, Judy Thiel, of Evans City; and a brother, William "Bill" Burk of Butler. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A son, Guy H. "Butch" Burk Jr.; two grandsons. Blaine Miller and Brian Burk, and two sisters, Jean Anderson and Sara Kohlmeyer, preceded him in death.

BURK - Friends of Guy Hilton Burk, who died Monday, May 17, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Main Street (Route 38), in Eau Claire. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Eau Claire Cemetery.
