Make no rushed, political policy proposals

It’s hard to imagine a time when so many critical issues rested before congressional lawmakers in Washington: voting rights, infrastructure, an economy, just to name a few. We should hope, and expect, that they will prioritize policy efforts in a way that meets the moment.

Lawmakers are back in their home districts no doubt hearing from voters and supporters about the issues that are driving kitchen table conversations across their communities.

Among them, I’d be surprised to hear any mention of technology companies. But that’s where a considerable amount of attention has been placed in recent months by lawmakers pushing a complete overhaul of the government’s approach to regulating technology.

With sound leadership finally at the wheel across branches in Washington, we shouldn’t spend valuable legislative time and political capital going after the technology companies that have become so integral to our economy and our lives. Let’s save conversations around the technology sector for when we actually have the legislative space to give these issues the time they deserve, and not move forward with rushed, political policy proposals that could impact our recovery.

Instead, I hope we’ll see lawmakers return to Congress ready to move full steam ahead, without distraction, on getting our economic recovery back on track, building back our crumbling infrastructure and protecting our access to the ballot.
