Trojans survive stiff test

DeGregorio's 34 helps NC to WPIAL semis

Isaac DeGregorio poured in 34 points as the North Catholic boys basketball team survived a scare against Carlynton Thursday night, 74-69, in the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals at North Allegheny High School.

The Trojans, struggled to pull away from Carlynton, but were able to hold on.

Kane 53, Moniteau 42 — After falling behind by 18 in the first half, the Warriors rallied to within three points of the lead with two minutes left in the game before falling in the District 9 Class 3A playoffs.

Ethan McDeavitt scored 17 points to lead Moniteau, which found itself down 20-5 after the first quarter.

Nate Tack added 10 for the Warriors.

Girls Basketball

Sidney Shemanski scored 16 points as Freeport took undefeated Southmoreland to the buzzer before falling 54-52 in the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals.

Melaina DeZort and Samantha Clark each scored 10 for the Yellowjackets in a game that saw 15 lead changes.

Elk County Catholic 51, Union 33 — The Damsels' season ended with this District 9 Class A loss.
