Burrows, KC girls shut out Forest

Addison Burrows struck out four and tossed a three-hitter, walking no one as Karns City’s softball team shut out Forest Area, 10-0, on Tuesday.

Jada Polczynski wielded the big bat for the Gremlins, collecting a double, two singles, six RBI and three runs scored. Lyrik Reed contributed two singles and two runs scored, Aubrey Taylor two singles and two runs scored.

Baseball

Moon scored fourr runs in the first inning and went on to post a 6-2 victory over Mars. Charlie Bickel had a double, single and scored a run for the Planets. Jacob Maple had a single and RBI.

Roman Brunsell struck out seven in 3.2 innings, but was tagged with the loss.

Boys Tennis

North Catholic’s Wills and Justin Kontul defeated Thomas Jefferson’s Rylan Barr and Matthew Bonte, 10-6, in the first round of the WPIAL Doubles Championships at Bethel Park High School.

The tandem then dropped a 10-3 decision to Quaker Valley’s Grant Webb and Matteo Castelluini. Another Trojans doubles unit, Alex Foubert-Lopez and Alex Weber, lost in the first round of the Class 2A tourney.

In Class 3A, Butler’s Andrew Bocci and Ben Busler dropped a 10-7 decision in the first round.

Boys Volleyball

Coleton Welter had 17 kills as Butler defeated North Hills, 3-1. Match scores were 27-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17.

Riley Chapla had 16 digs, Mason McCall 32 assists for the Golden Tornado (7-5, 6-4), who play at Shaler on Thursday.

Mars 3, Gateway 0 — The Planets swept the Gators. Match scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.

Track and Field

Slippery Rock swept a dual meet from Sharon, the boys winning, 97-53, the girls claiming a 91-58 decision.

Levi Prementine broke the school record by running the 110-meter hurdles in 14.54 seconds. He also won the high jump and long jump. Tyler Arblaster won the 100 and 800 meters. Other boys winners for the Rockets were Eli Anderson in the 300-meter hurdles, Josh Shaffer the discus, Dustin Joyce the triple jump and Caleb Clark the pole vault.

Aiva Reich won both hurdle events for the Slippery Rock girls. Lexi Plesakov won the 100 meters and long jump. Other girls winners were Kasey Yeager in the 800, Madison Gearhart the 200, Leah Perez the 3,200, Autumn Christie the javelin, Samantha Montgomery the triple jump and Elise DeFrischia the pole vault.

Moniteau’s girls dropped a 100-48 decision to North Clarion. Bella Hernandez won the javelin, Riley Ealy the high jump and Annalyce Baptiste the pole vault for the Warriors.
