A free Outdoor Discovery series at Alameda Park, conducted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, will feature “Intro to Reptiles & Amphibians of Pa.” on June 13 in the Oddfellows Shelter. Programs are to begin at 6:30 p.m. June 13 to Aug. 15 (no program July 4). Call Butler County Parks and Recreation at 724-284-5383.

Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, will host Birds and More nature walks at 9 a.m. Thursdays. The newly renovated T.W. Phillips Barn features a WindStax turbine that supplies electricity to the building, a nature store, classroom space, a large upstairs area that can be used for programs or rentals, and numerous bathrooms. The barn is one of the major elements of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania's $7 million Centennial Campaign. Call 412-963-6100 or visit www.aswp.org.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, hosts “An Evening with Fireflies: Citizen Science After Dark” at 8 p.m. June 13. Registration is limited and required by Sunday by calling 724-794-6011, or online at https://events.dcnr.pa.gov/event/an_evening_with_fireflies_citizen_science_after_dark. Cost is $10, and includes a T-shirt and firefly field guide. Proceeds benefit the Pennsylvania Firefly Festival.

Moraine State Park will have a Bartramian Audubon Society Bird Walk from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday from the McDanel's Launch/Owlet Gift Shop parking lot on the North Shore. A Muddy Creek Oil Well Living History program is planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday as well. Discover-E camps for children ages 4 and 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 12 are available. To register call the park office at 724-368-8811. A program on the Western Allegheny Railroad will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pavilion 7, McDanel's Area of the North Shore. Watercolor Wednesdays will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday from the Owlet Gift Shop near McDanel's on the North Shore

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, off Route 422, is open 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, including Labor Day. Tours are given at 1 and 2 p.m. A Twilight Hike in Hell’s Hollow will depart from the Hell’s Hollow parking lot at 6:30 p.m. June 14. Admission is free. Call 724-368-8811.Star parties, sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will begin about 8:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E.
