Pgh. Symphony performs at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON — The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra series at Westminster College continues as the orchestra and conductor Manfred Honeck return at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Honeck will conduct selections from Greig's “Peer Gynt” including “Morning Mood” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and Mendelssohn's “Violin Concerto” featuring Lithuanian violinist Julian Rachlin.

Rachlin has performed as soloist with leading conductors and orchestras. He is principal guest conductor of the British chamber orchestra known as the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland, and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway.He also leads the “Julian Rachlin & Friends Festival” in Palma de Mallorca in Spain.The symphony will perform in Westminster's Orr Auditorium, a 1,700-seat concert hall, where Westminster's various music ensembles and guest artists from the Celebrity Series regularly perform.Adult ticket prices vary and student tickets are $12 (Westminster College student admission is free).For information, call 724-946-7354.
