“Nordic Winters” featuring pianist Stephen Beus will be presented by the Butler County Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Beus will perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto.”

[naviga:h3]Meditation seminar set[/naviga:h3]

Cynthia Marshall, an ordained Buddhist chaplain, will present a “Buddhist Meditation Seminar” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St. Cost is $10.

The program is for those interested in studying meditation for stress. The program will cover how to create a regular meditation schedule, how meditation scientifically works, and then, allow time to meditate with meditation instructors and regular meditation practitioners.

[naviga:h3]Jazz cabaret scheduled[/naviga:h3]

Another Jazz Cabaret is planned for February.

The series moved from the main campus of St. Barnabas Health System in Gibsonia last February, where it had been for the last four years, to Conley’s in Penn Township, which St. Barnabas now owns.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 13.

Selections will include a touch of jazz from Broadway and a tinge of Valentine’s Day music.

The interpretation of these songs will be delivered by vocalist Maura Minteer and her trio. Her musical director and husband, Jeff Lashway, adds another dimension with his years of being the principal pianist for the Maynard Ferguson big band ensemble. Tony DePaolis and Danny Glover complete the trio on bass and drums.

Tickets are $12.50. Appetizers and parking are complimentary. There will be a cash bar.

[naviga:h3]Center hosts hockey exhibit[/naviga:h3]

The Senator John Heinz History Center presents “A Great Day for Hockey” exhibition opening to the public Jan. 26.

The history center’s sports museum will showcase artifacts from all five Stanley Cup teams, including game-worn equipment from superstars like Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby.

[naviga:h3]Science center slates free films[/naviga:h3]

The Rangos Giant Cinema at Carnegie Science Center is offering a free movie day on Monday, sponsored by Duquesne Light.

Films being shown include “Tiny Giants,” an educational film about the lives of tiny animals.
