A-C Valley girls volleyball 14-2

N.C.'s Smithco 2nd in PIAA golf

A-C Valley's girls volleyball team ended its regular season at 14-2 with a 3-0 victory over Oil City Monday night.

The District 9 playoff pairings will be released Tuesday.

“We didn't get this game in early enough, otherwise, we'd probably be the No. 2 seed,” A-C Valley coach Doug Knox said. “We'll probably be the No. 3.”

The Falcons won the match 25-9, 25-8, 25-9.

Olivia Boocks led the way with 13 service points, five aces, 10 digs and six kills. Emily Wetzel had nine service points, 10 digs and 16 assists.

Kylee Eaton contributed 12 points, four aces and 10 kills, Hannah Farrington six service points and five digs, Kaylie Merwin 15 points and four aces. Andrea Meals had seven digs, three kills and a block.

A-C Valley's junior varsity also finished 14-2 with a 25-15, 25-13 triumph.

Brookville 3, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins lost the match 25-11, 25-16, 25-23 despite 17 assists from Alyssa Stitt.

Rayna Miller had eight kills and four digs, Emma Clark five kills, Emily Wolfe four kills and 10 digs, Mackenzie Dunn 17 digs.

Karns City's JV team won 23-25, 25-12, 25-21.

Golf

North Catholic's Madie Smithco shot a 6-over 78 Monday afternoon at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in the first round of the PIAA Class AA golf tournament.

Smithco is in second place after the first round, four strokes off the pace set by Lydia Swan of North East.

Swan shot a 2-over 74.

The second and final round will be held Tuesday.

On the boys side, North Catholic's Trey Bartony shot an 82 and was in 23rd place after the first round.
