'A Skull in Connemara' dark comedy staged at BLT

Maryjohnny, played by Amy Dittman, reacts in horror as Mick, played by Rue Snider, prepares to smash a skull in the Lab Theatre Project's “A Skull in Connemara.” The production goes on stage for one night only Saturday at Butler Little Theatre.

“After seven years, sure, it’s only a poor straggle of two or three bones ... I’m sure …”

So goes the tale of “A Skull in Connemara” being staged for one night only at the Butler Little Theatre, One Howard St.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Lab Theatre Project group, in cooperation with the BLT, presents Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy in a reader’s theater format.

In this style of theater, actors use only vocal expression to help the audience understand the story rather than visual storytelling, such as sets, costumes and movement.

The dark and comic Irish play, “A Skull in Connemara,” follows grave digger Mick Dowd as he copes with the inquests and persistent local rumors about how his wife really died seven years ago.

When the village graveyard is full, Mick is the one who has to dig to make room for the new tenants. The trouble is, this time, more than old bones come to the surface.

The cast includes Jeff Myers as the Narrator, Amy Dittman as Maryjohnny, Rue Snider as Mick, Justin Anderson as Martin and Thomas Bennett as Thomas.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Profits will benefit the BLT.

The play contains adult language and situations.
