[naviga:h3]MTG opens 'Jerry's Girls'[/naviga:h3]

Musical Theatre Guild presents “Jerry's Girls” Friday through July 22 at MTG's William A. Lehnerd Performance Hall at the rear of Memorial Park.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and July 20 and 21 and at 3 p.m. July 22.

Tickets are $17, available at www.mtgbutler.org or by calling 724-287-8243 from 7 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays.

[naviga:h3]Theater stages 'Washington' [/naviga:h3]

ALLEGHENY TWP, Westmoreland County — Freeport Theatre Festival's 29th summer season opens with “Washington in the Ohio Country” on Friday.

The historical drama written by resident playwright Rennick Steele deals with the early military adventures of young George Washington.

Performance dates are Friday through Sunday and July 20-22 and 27-29, all at 7 p.m.

Plays take place at the Steele Farm, 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.

General admission is $15. Those in the military, as well as those age 65 and older pay $12 and students pay $10.

[naviga:h3]Oil alliance hosts programs[/naviga:h3]

OIL CITY — The Oil Region Alliance, 217 Elm St., has scheduled several upcoming programs.

A Tea at the Tarbell House program will feature “Caring for Vintage Clothing” at 2 p.m. Monday. Susan Beates, curator at Drake Well Museum, will give the presentation.

Another Tea at the Tarbell House program will be “100 Years of Aprons, 1899-1999” at 2 p.m. July 23, as presented by Cheryl Weiderspahn, local historian and author.

A free open house at the Coal Oil Johnny House at Rynd Farm, 167 Old Bankson Road, inside Oil Creek State Park, is planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25.

[naviga:h3]Dinner theater planned[/naviga:h3]

Sing Hosanna! will host its Christmas in August dinner theater on Aug. 11 at St. Peter's Parish Hall, 127 Franklin St.

The show will be the Christmas western melodrama “Rollin' in Dough in Mistletoe” (or “Don't Crack Jingle Bell Rock”).

There will be one presentation only, starting at noon.

Starring will be Trey Hixon, TommyLynn Kilian, Alayna Bestwick, Isaac Hixon, Hannah Mazzeo, Kyleigh Spink and Lily Maschmeier.

Also featured will be the concert “Christmas from the Heart,” arranged by Mark Bryner, featuring the Sing Hosanna! Vocal Ensemble.

Admission is $22 per adult and $7 per child age 10 and younger. Tickets are available in advance only, and reservations are required by Aug. 8.

[naviga:h3]Shakespeare in park canceled[/naviga:h3]

Hobnob Theatre Company has had to cancel its scheduled Shakespeare in the park production of “The Merchant of Venice,” planned for July and August in Butler Township and Zelienople.

The group is setting up plans for Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” in December.

[naviga:h3]Another Tumble Inn set[/naviga:h3]

LYNDORA — After its success in April, another Tumble Inn event — this one called The Tumble Inn Dream Dance — is planned for Saturday.

Dave Martin and Ron Marowitz will again be hosting the event at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave.

Martin is one of the original DJs for the mid-century dance parties, and Marowitz will be the guest DJ.

Bill Reichert will be performing some doo-wop favorites.

Doors open at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and dancing at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for the buffet dinner and dancing until 10 p.m. The event is BYOB.
