Mars' Bednar sharp again

Strikes out 11 as Planets win

Will Bednar struck out 11 and tossed a three-hit shutout Monday as Mars concluded section play with a 4-0 baseball win over Hampton.

Bednar headed to Ohio State University, allowed no walks in the game. Tyler Kowalkowski paced the Planets (11-5, 9-3) with three singles and two RBI.

Pine-Richland 10, Knoch 4 — The Knights (14-2, 13-1) dropped this non-section game despite getting a double and three RBI from Dylan Swarmer and a double and RBI from Ben McMillen.

Ethan Sloane allowed two hits and struck out three in four relief innings.

Softball

Celia Knappenberger tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out seven as Knoch blanked Highlands, 4-0.

Natalie Brown had a double, single and two RBI for the Knights.

Karns City 12, Keystone 2 — Mackenzie Dunn homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Gremlins to this rout.

Alyssa Stitt added a pair of doubles and two RBI for Karns City.

Boys Lacrosse

Freeport gave up a pair of shorthanded goals in the third period and dropped a 17-14 decision to Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic in their final section game of the season.

Sean Fennel and Garret Schaffhauser scored four goals each for the Yellowjackets (10-5, 2-2) Braith Kiser had a goaL and four assists.

Caleb Leyland scored two goals, Gabe Brunck and Luke Miller one each. Greg Smith made 13 saves in goal.

Girls Lacrosse

Eliza Drohan scored a pair of goals, but Butler dropped a 15-2 decision to Sewickley.
