[naviga:h3]Philharmonic offers concert, library event[/naviga:h3]

The finale of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic’s 42nd Season, “Story Time,” will highlight music’s ability to capture the imagination.

The Philharmonic will feature Rimsky Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” plus the Young Composer Contest winner for the 7:30 p.m. May 12 concert at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College. For tickets, visit https://itkt.choicecrm.net/templates/BCCC or call 724-284-8505.

Leading up to the concert, the Philharmonic has partnered with Butler Public Library to bring musical storytelling to the community. The hourlong, family-friendly event will begin at 11 a.m. May 5 at the library on McKean Street.

[naviga:h3]BLT to stage comedy[/naviga:h3]

Butler Little Theatre will close its 77th season with the comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”

The play will run May 4 to 12 at the BLT at One Howard St.

The cast includes Ric Medic, Katy Closkey, Heidi Nicholls Bowser, Kyle DePasquale, Laila Tylor and Renee DiAlesandro.

The show is being managed by Marianne Snider, produced by Pat Bell and directed by Lester Malizia.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tickets are $13 and will be available to members Tuesday and Wednesday and then to the general public beginning April 26.

[naviga:h3]Stone house site of ‘Stitches’[/naviga:h3]

BRADY TWP — A program at the Old Stone House will feature how people have used textiles for practical and creative purposes throughout history.

“Stitches in Time” will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and April 28 at the site near the intersection of Routes 8, 173 and 528.

The exhibit will display historic textiles from the 18th to early 20th centuries, including embroidery, quilts, clothing, and decorative art, displayed alongside contemporary textile pieces created by students of Slippery Rock University associate professor of art Barbara Westman.

Admission is free. The exhibit is part of SRU’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival, and is co-sponsored by the Stone House Center for Public Humanities and SRU Art Department.
