Freeport lacrosse enjoys 12-11 scores

Freeport's boys lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a pair of 12-11 victories Saturday in West Virginia.

The Yellowjackets defeated Morgantown by that score when Sean Fennel notched his fifth goal of the game 2:29 into overtime. Braith Kiser had three goals for Freeport and Nick Mattivi made six saves in goal.

Later in the day, Freeport traveled to Fairmont and overcame a three-goal deficit. The Yellowjackets scored four goals in the final eight minutes for a second 12-11 win.

Fennel had another five-goal game while Garret Schaffhauser had three goals and five assists. Brennon Riley scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.

Mattivi made five saves and Gabe Brunck went 15-7 on faceoffs.

Freeport opens section play Wednesday, hosting Knoch.

Softball

Tori Radvan had four hits — including a homer and double — and collected five RBI in Freeport's 16-6 Saturday win over Armstrong.

Winning pitcher Ashleigh Schmidt had a single, double, triple and drew a pair of walks. Becca Fennell contributed two singles and a double.

Anna Harmon had a double for Armstrong.

Track and Field

Karns City's boys swept the relay events in posting a season-opening 86-51 win over Keystone recently.
