BC3 inducting 4 into HOF May 6

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College will induct four new members into the Charles W. Dunaway Pioneer Hall of Fame next month.

The class of inductees includes Robert Wilson, Dr. Andrew Matonak, Missy (Haney) Schnur and Walter Fitzpatrick. They will be honored at a ceremony in the main campus’ Field House at 2 p.m. May 6.

Wilson ran cross country and in 1970 became BC3’s first All-American. In 1971 he received the honor a second time, and was the first of three BC3 athletes to earn the status twice.

Matonak was a left-handed pitcher for BC3 in 1973 and 1974, and posted earned-run averages of 1.08 and 1.16, while raking up batting averages of .407 and .450. He has been president of Hudson Valley Community College since 2005.

Schnur led BC3’s women’s volleyball squad to a 15-4 record in 1998 and 19-2 in 1999, and won post season honors from the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference and Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association twice.

Fitzpatrick has served as the men’s basketball team’s scorekeeper since 1968, and has also served as scorekeeper for the school’s women’s basketball squad and the baseball team.

The May 6 induction ceremony will kick off an annual event, according to Rob Snyder, BC3 director of student life and athletics.

The event is open to the public and those wishing to attend can RSVP by contacting assistant director of student life Torey O’Donnell at torey.odonnell@bc3.edu.

The hall of fame recognizes former student athletes, faculty and staff, coaches and friends who have made significant contributions to BC3 athletics.
