'Saved by the Bell' actor presents comedy show

Dustin Diamond

MARSHALL TWP — Comedy fans will get a blast from the past this weekend as Dustin Diamond takes the stage at the Slapsticks Comedy Club at the Doubletree by Hilton.

Diamond is best known for playing Screech on the popular ’90s television show “Saved by the Bell.”

Doors open at 7:15 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Friday at the hotel, 910 Sheraton Drive. Tickets are $20 in advance and $23 at the door.

Pittsburgh comic Sean Collier will join the show as a featured act.

While Diamond is known for his squeaky clean image on TV, his comedy is more adult-oriented. David Kaye, owner of SlapSticks Productions, said fans of “Saved by the Bell” and curiosity-seekers alike will enjoy the show.

“I think people that knew him from ‘Saved by the Bell’ would be thrilled to see somebody they knew from their past,” Kaye said. “I’m sure they’re going to have a great time with him.”

In addition to his work on television and his stand-up act, Diamond has been involved with reality television, indie movies and numerous other projects. He’s appeared on the British reality series “Big Brother,” on Oprah Winfrey’s “Where Are They Now?” and written a book called “Behind the Bell.”

Kaye said he opened a comedy club at Crowne Plaza Hotel and Suites in Bethel Park owned by the same property management group as the Doubletree. Things went so well he was contacted about opening up at the remodeled Cranberry area hotel, he said.

Kaye is a standup comedian himself, and his production company has a roster of more than 300 comedians. His company also hosts more than 80 fundraising comedy shows each year for community groups.
