SLIPPERY ROCK — Vocalist Michelle Berting Brett, along with a live Nashville band, will take the stage for the final performance in Slippery Rock University’s 2016-17 performing arts series.

They will perform “We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered” at 7:30 p.m. March 31 in the University Union.

The evening will showcase the music of Richard and Karen Carpenter, one of the most successful recording acts of all time. The Carpenters sold more than a hundred million records in just over a decade and still hold the record for the most consecutive Top 10 singles.

Songs will include “For All We Know,” “Goodbye to Love,” “Hurting Each Other,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “Rainy Days and Mondays,” “Close to You,” “Top of the World,” “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Yesterday Once More.”

In addition, Berting Brett shares stories culled from research and interviews with those who knew the Carpenters personally and professionally.

Berting Brett is known as a jazz and cabaret singer who has opened for performers ranging from comic legend Bob Newhart to music icon Little Richard.

Tickets are $22 for adults; $20 for senior citizens; $18 for youths 17 and younger; and $8 for SRU students. Visit www.sru.edu/pas or call 724-738-2018.

In addition to the concert, Berting Brett will present a lecture on what society learned from Karen Carpenter’s death at age 32 due to heart failure related to her struggles with anorexia.

The talk at 5 p.m. March 30 in the University Union will address eating disorders and their prevalence in our culture, as well as their causes and treatment. The lecture is free.
