Freeport boys, Knoch girls win QC Invitational

Freeport’s Johnathan Asay placed first overall and teammate Alec Parker was second to lead the Yellowjacket boys to victory in the five-team Quad County Cross Country Invitational, held Wednesday in Freeport.

Knoch won the girls’ meet with Heather Wittmer, Sammy Jo Barnes and Chloe Ciora earning spots two through four.

Six players scored goals for Karns City in a season-opening, 6-1 win over Clarion.

Finding the net for the Gremlins were Kaylee Smith, Alexis Moore, Collette Stahlman, McKenna Lavella, Haley Sherer and Megan McCartney.

Butler 4, Kiski Area 1 — Britnie Spithaler scored a pair of goals to keep the Golden Tornado unbeaten.

Odile Enslen and Liz Simms also scored for Butler (3-0).

Knoch 1, Hampton 1 — Lauren Betts scored for the Knights (1-0-1).

Freeport 3, Burrell 0 — Abby Bastaja scored a pair of goals for the Yellowjackets in this victory. Olivia Gaspersic added a single tally.

Cassie Suran made five saves in goal for Freeport.

Girls Volleyball

Clarion 3, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins were swept in this Tuesday match by scores of 25-12, 25-8 and 25-13.

Boys Golf

Scott Hangliter led the way for Seneca Valley with a 37 to lead the Raiders to a 200-221 win over Butler at Butler County Club.

Nic Leone shot a 38 to lead Butler.
