Steam show gases upPORTERSVILLE — The Spring Gas-Up will be Saturday and Sunday at the Portersville Steam Show grounds on Route 19.This event opens the 2016 show season for the nonprofit organization.Featured will be displays and demonstrations of antique farm and oil field equipment, antique automobiles, crafts, a flea market, saw milling, and an old tractor “just for fun” pulling contest.The vintage village consists of a large print shop with operating linotype machine; operational 1880s machine shop; an exhibit building containing model trains, toys and old dairy equipment line; a trading post; gas station; and log home.Food will be available. Movies in Park plannedMovies in the Park, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, are planned for select Mondays in the summer.The free movies will be presented at 8:30 p.m. on the following days:“Home,” June 27“Inside Out,” July 11“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” July 25“The Croods,” Aug. 8.The movies take place at the Masonic Shelter, and the popcorn is also free.

Film fest comes to KittanningKITTANNING — Paddlers, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts will gather July 30 in Kittanning for a stop on the world tour of the international Reel Paddling Film Festival.The event, hosted by the Armstrong County Tourist Bureau, will take place at 9 p.m. in Kittanning Riverfront Park, weather permitting.Attendance is free, but a ticket will be required to be eligible for door prizes and to reserve a seat at the backup location, if weather is subpar, at Kittanning Elks Lodge 203, 140 N. Phipps begins film seriesPITTSBURGH — Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will kick off its new Environmental Film Series with the VPRO Backlight documentary, “Fossil Free,” at 7 p.m. Friday.Screenings for the series will take place on the third Friday of every month in the Botany Hall Auditorium at Phipps.Attendance is free with regular admission, which is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and students, $11 for children ages 2 to 8.For more information, visit phipps.conservatory.org.
