Butler no-hit by Pine-Richland

Tornado need help to reach WPIAL playoff

The Butler baseball playoff hopes took a big hit in a 1-0 loss to Pine-Richland Friday afternoon.

Ryan Okuda and Hunter Treece combined for a no-hitter for the Rams.

Okuda pitched five innings and struck out eight. Treece pitched the final two innings, striking out three and walking one for the save.

Troy LaNeve drove in the winning run with a fifth-inning single.

Butler (9-5, 4-5) needs a win at Seneca Valley and a North Allegheny loss to North Hills to make the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs.

Connor Ollio picked up the hard-luck loss for Butler. He struck out two in six innings of work.

Softball

Kennedy DeMatteis homered , doubled, singled twice and drove in five runs as Moniteau beat A-C Valley 12-0 in six innings.

Her three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth triggered the mercy rule.

DeMatteis also picked up the win in the circle.

Sara Hull drove in three runs, Cortney Claypoole had three hits, including two doubles, and Gabby Stewart had three singles for the Warriors (12-0).

Kylee Eaton doubled for A-C Valley (4-5).

Seneca Valley 15, Butler 9 — Justin Jablonski scored four goals for the Golden Tornado in this Thursday loss.

Sam Lex, Gavin Terwilliger, Nico Cicco, Andrew Monks and Riley Coleman all added a goal each.
